3D Projection Screens
There are different techniques for 3D projection but the bases is the same. An image is displayed for the left and another image is displayed for the right eye and our eyes make this into a three-dimensional image. Stereoscopic 3D is the technique of creating depth in an image by using a separate image for each eye.
Stereoscopic active and passive 3D projection
Active 3D projection often uses a single projector rapidly alternating between displaying the left eye image and the right eye image. This frequency is coordinated with a pair of shuttered glasses which block the light to the opposite eye at the same rate. With active 3D the projector and glasses make sure each image is displayed to the correct eye, so practically every projection surface can be used. However in most cases the loss of light through the filters requires a projection surface with a higher gain and therefore we recommend to use Pearlescent.
Passive 3D projection is usually realised with two projectors, one for each eye’s information. Passive 3D projection does not use expensive shutter glasses, but needs polarising filters and a projection surface with polarisation retention to separate the two different signals. Polarisation is a property of certain types of waves that describes the orientation of their oscillations. These differences in orientation are used to project different signals. Polarisation retention is the ability of the projection surface to retain the orientation of the signal and preserve the polarisation. Projecta offers two projection surfaces with 99% polarisation retention:
3D Virtual Grey (front projection)
Designed specifically for passive stereoscopic 3D front projection systems, 3D Virtual Grey is a flexible projection surface that retains 99 percent of polarized light. Other characteristics include the ability to maintain high extinction values, virtually eliminate ghosting or crosstalk common with stereoscopic 3D projection and excellent image contrast.
• Gain: 1.85
• Viewing Angle: 22°
3D Virtual Black® (rear projection)
Designed specifically for passive stereoscopic 3D rear projection systems, 3D Virtual Black® is a flexible rear projection surface that retains 99 percent polarization. This fabric maintains a high fidelity 3D image and virtually eliminates all image ghosting. The black surface finish provides excellent image contrast and its 3.0 gain offers exceptionally vivid images even in ambient light conditions.
• Gain: 3.0
• Viewing Angle: 20°
